Protect. Prevent. Purrrfect.

The Humane Society of Cozumel Island is dedicated to eradicating the problem of homeless animals through sterilization and education.

We have consistently sterilized an average of 2000-3000 dogs and cats FOR FREE every year. This has resulted in an enormous decrease in the street dog and cat population.

We operate year round and need your donations to keep going.

The Humane Society of Cozumel

We have been at the forefront of sterilization practices in Latin America since our establishment in 1995.

From the very beginning, we dedicated significant time and effort to defining our protocols to ensure that the Humane Society Cozumel became a viable, sustainable, and impactful endeavor.

Today, our protocols serve as a model for other similar non-profit organizations in Honduras, Belize, and various other states in Mexico.

We are very proud to have contributed to the advancement of sterilization practices in the region.

Our Mission

Prevent.

Our objective is to eradicate the overpopulation of cats and dogs in Cozumel by implementing a comprehensive approach that includes free sterilization services for all, in addition to a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program.

Protect.

In addition to our efforts in sterilization and population control, we provide low-cost veterinary care to the community. We also actively work to rehabilitate and find loving homes for animals in need. We engage the community and encourage them to feed and look out for street animals after TNR.

Purrrfect.

Our commitment goes beyond animal welfare; we recognize the importance of community involvement in building an ideal society. Through educational initiatives, we aim to make a lasting impact for years to come.

Our school visits aim to educate and inspire the younger generation of Cozumel.

Why Sterilization?

Our primary focus is sterilization, education, and responsible animal care. We believe that addressing the root cause of overpopulation is crucial in creating a lasting impact. By sterilizing animals, we aim to not only provide immediate relief but also prevent future suffering and eliminate the need for transporting rescued animals to other countries.

To achieve these goals, we operate a year-round Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program and provide free sterilization services for pets. Currently, we sterilize approximately 400 animals every month, and with the completion of our new surgery facility, we anticipate even greater success in the future.
