What We Do
Our goal is to combat the overpopulation of dogs and cats by focusing on a massive sterilization program, both in the clinic, and through the use of clinics in colonies where we see the urgent need.
By finding loving homes for pets and educating the community, we can create responsible people with their pets and thereby improve the welfare of the animals.

Year-round FREE Sterilization Campaign
Sterilization is a simple and inexpensive surgery that allows controlling the birth of dogs and cats.
Our main goal at Humane Society is to prevent the birth of as many pets as possible.
Over population is directly linked to the decrease of animal wellbeing in a community. When the number of pets surpasses the communities capacity to take care of them, dogs and cats are forced to live in the streets vulnerable to all kind of dangers and illness.
Our spay and neuter strategies are the following:
- Permanent free spay and neuter at clinic, for pets on appointment.
- Massive free spay and neuter campaigns.
- Our own weekly catch, spay/neuter and release that includes education of pet owners and TNR of high reproduction risk animals.
- Regular multi-day campaigns in different areas of the island with the mobile clinic.
- Massive sterilization campaigns in collaboration with other organizations.
We spay and neuter approximately 3,000 pets each year.

Construction Project
Our current facilities have been tirelessly serving our community, but we’ve reached a critical point. To save more lives and reduce suffering, we urgently need to expand our infrastructure. Here’s what we have in store:
- 4 Surgical Tables (currently we only have 2) so that we can perform more sterilizations each day.
- Expanded Prep and Recovery Areas so we can ensure the comfort and safety of our animals before and after surgery.
- A Cattery and Quarantine Area to allow us to keep animals in need on the premises.
- A Breakout Area for our dedicated team of staff and volunteers to have a rest.
- An Education Auditorium which will be a hub for learning about responsible pet ownership, animal welfare, and more.
- A Cat Cafe where visitors can interact with our adorable feline residents.

TNR Program
Dogs and cats that live or spend time unsupervised on the street are the most likely to reproduce. The litters will have a difficult life and a very uncertain future. They will probably be on the street like their parents, where they will be exposed to all kinds of dangers.
Our TNR program is 100% outreach where we capture dogs and cats roaming the streets (not necessarily homeless), and we take them to our clinic for sterilization. We mark them and add them to our database. Once recovered we release them in the same place of capture.

Massive Campaigns
Every year we organize massive campaigns in which 200 to 850 animals are sterilized in two or three days.
To carry them out we have the participation of veterinarians from different parts of Mexico and the world, especially from Quintana Roo, Yucatan, the United States and Canada.
Our staff also participates in massive campaigns organized by other institutions such as Planned Pethood International, Petsland & Isla Animal’s and Coco’s Animal Welfare, among others.
